Benziger Brothers, Cincinnati
The Benziger Brothers Charles and Nicholas succeeded their fathers Joseph Charles Benzinger. The elder Benziger founded his religious publishing firm in Switzerland in 1792. The brothers continued the business beginning in 1833. They were manly in Switzerland although they had a branch in New York in 1853. The brothers retired in 1860 and the company was then under the leadership of the three sons of each brother.
In 1860 a Cincinnati branch was opened and this was followed an outlet in Chicago in 1887.
The firm published a number of series for juveniles in the English language. I have included all the pre-1900 series here and have added a few early 20th century series.
