J. Buffum, Boston
Not much is known about this publisher. It appears that Buffum was
associated with the J. Buffum and T. C. Gill publishing house in 1841.
Buffum worked in New Hampshire as a notary and attorney in
the 1840's. He was in the publishing business in Nashua, New Hampshire
in the late 1840's but J. Buffum was in Boston by 1850. In 1854 J.
Buffum was advertising itself as a bookseller, publisher and Stationer
at the 23 Cornhill address. No mention of a firm with this name has
been seen after 1857.
One juvenile series was published by this house.
The "Juvenile Series" consisted of six books, all of which
had previously been published by other houses including, J. Q. Preble,
Loomis & Peck and Smith & Peck.
