H. M. Caldwell Co., New York

Herbert M. Caldwell established his namesake publishing firm in 1896.
A native of Canada, he accepted a position with John W. Lovell Co. in 1883. Sometime thereafter he worked at the Henry Altemus firm.

His publishing output was similar to that of Henry Altemus being reprints that made up various series and sets.

In 1910 Dana Estes & Company bought a controlling interest in Caldwell. Estes sold Caldwell to the Dodge Publishing Company in 1914. Herbert M. Caldwell stayed on as sales manager. Caldwell imprints on books continued until that time.

The H. M. Caldwell Co. published numerous series for adults and juveniles/children during its eighteen year publishing life. This bibliography only notes those series that began in the 19th century. If you have a question about later books, email me since I have information on all the Caldwell series.
