Charles Caverly, Jr., Boston
Caverly was the agent/general manager for the Universalist
Publishing House between 1874 and his death in 1893. While there he
published a number of well known Universalist magazines for children
and adults. These included: The Universalist, The Myrtle, Sunday School
Helper, Universalist Quarterly, the Christian Leader and the
Universalist Almanac and Register.
Caverly was named secretary of the Universalist Publishing
House in 1868. In 1862 it had originally been organized as the New
England Publishing house. The name was changed in about 1867.
The Myrtle was a weekly periodical, which was edited by
Mrs. E. M. Bruce. Bruce authored all the titles in the two series that
were published on Caverly's imprint.
