Tomlinson Brothers, Chicago
The Tomlinson Brothers was established in 1855 by John H. Tomlinson
and his brother, William M. Tomlinson. They came to Chicago from their
native Boston in 1857. In 1871 John took exclusive control of the
company. The firm "John H. Tomlinson" was active to about the turn of
the century. It published no juvenile titles and mainly dealt in sunday
school supplies. John H. Tomlinson died in 1911 at the age of 83.
The Tomlinson Brothers was described as being "dealers in
sabbath school publications". Some advertisements noted that in the
1860's this firm was the largest seller of Sunday School literature in
the northwest. In addition however to being booksellers, it also
published a number of titles. Included in the publications was one
series for juveniles: the three book "Lake Side Series".
