Thomas Whittaker, New York
Thomas Whittaker (1841-1914) was a native of Ireland, immigrating to the United States at the age of sixteen. After being associated with the Evangelical Knowledge Society, he established his own namesake publishing business in 1874.

Whittaker acted as an agent in the 1890’s for a number of publishers. These included Hodder & Stoughton, Jas. Nisbet, W. & R. Chambers, as well as several other English firms. This is why some titles published by English firms are the same as the covers used for the those books published by Whittaker.
