Wm. Wood & Co., New York
Samuel Wood founded his namesake firm in 1804. Samuel's sons, Samuel S. and William were admitted to the house in 1817 and Samuel Wood & Sons was established. William Wood had a special interest in medical texts.
In 1836 the sons bought out the father’s interest and established Samuel S. & William Wood. In 1861 Samuel died. William Wood operated as William Wood between 1861 and 1863. In 1863 William’s son, William H. S. Wood, became a partner and the house was renamed Wm. Wood & Co. William retired in 1868 and died in 1877.
