This series was introduced by Roberts Brothers. It was reprinted by Little, Brown & Co.
When "Their Canoe Trip" was added to the series in 1889, "Mice at Play" was deleted from the set.

P. Thorne is noted as the author of books #1 and #3 until about 1886.

Format 1: Volumes #1-9
Cloth. Various colors. All the books except for #4 and #5 have the same decorative patten with black lettering on the cover. The spine has gilt lettering and the same decorative pattern. Book #1 has a gilt cover illustration of children over a barrel. Books #4 has a plain cover with the title lettered at the top in 1884. By 1893 the cover had changed. (See below) Book #5 has gilt lettering and a canoe on the cover. 4.25" x 7".
