Burt's One Syllable Histories (1903-ca. 1930)
This 12 book set was mostly the same as the last format books of the
series with the same name published earlier by George Routledge and
Sons, Limited. These cloth bound volumes are 8.25" x 7" and cost $1.00
each. By 1917 the books were priced at 75 cents and in 1921 they were
$1.00 again. In 1930 only books #1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 12 were in the
series selling for $1.00 each. By 1936, just before Burt went out of
business, only books #4, 7, 9, and 12 made up the series selling for
$1.00 each.
Note that Lives of the President by a different author, Jean Remy, is
part of the other One Syllable Book series published by Burt.
Also of significance is the "History of the United States" as well as
the "Lives of the Presidents" have been seen in different versions
reflecting new updated information in a later revised text.
