Belknap & Warfield, Hartford
Belknap & Warfield was established by Leverett Belknap and George Warfield in 1891. It was mainly a bookseller, printer and stationery outfit with some book publishing.
Leverett Belknap (1851-1942) joined the firm of Brown & Gross in 1864. Starting as a clerk, he rose to become a partner. George F. Warfield worked for Brown & Gross as a bookkeeper in 1884 and after other employment came back to the firm in 1889.
Flavius A. Brown died in 1880 and when William H. Gross passed away in 1891, Belknap & Warfield succeeded Brown & Gross. Belknap retired in 1910 and the firm was succeeded by G. F. Warfield & Co.
This company published two series for juveniles:
