Joshua W. Daughaday (1830-1903) with Reverend Alexander Clark established "Clark's School Visitor", a monthly magazine for children, in 1857. This periodical morphed through name changes including "Our School Day Visitor" and "School Day Magazine" until 1875 when it was absorbed into "St. Nicholas Magazine". During the eighteen years of publication it was published by J. W. Daughaday, Daughaday & Hammond, Daughaday and Becker and J. W. Daughaday & Co.".
Beginning in 1873 Daughaday manufactured printing presses with William Clark. In the end he was better known for his presses than his book/periodical publishing. He died of apoplexy in 1903.
