Geo. H. Derby & Co., Buffalo, New York
The Buffalo based bookstore and publishing house of Derby &
Hewson (Geo. D. Hewson) opened on June 7th, 1847. It dissolved in
1848. Thereafter Derby was joined in a new partnership by Chas. F.
Coffin. They established Geo. H. Derby & Co. Erastus G. Knight was
made a partner in 1849. Derby died in 1852 and the business was
carried on by Charles F. Coffin and J. C. Derby.
This firm published two juvenile series.
The Stories not for Good Children or Bad Children
was published by Derby in 1849.
The three books were written by Elizabeth Oakes Smith.

The first editions were published in 1846 by Saxton & Kelt
(Boston) with Saxton & Miles (New York). Subsequently they were
published by Derby and Miller and later by Leary & Getz.

George H. Derby published the first editions of this series in 1852. Derby and Miller published this series in 1853. Derby, Orton & Mulligan co-published some editions. Subsequently this set was published by Miller, Orton & Mulligan in 1854 and 1855 and C. M. Saxton.
