Fairbanks, Palmer & Co., Chicago
Loomis T. Palmer (1843-1896) began his publishing business in Chicago in 1873 after gaining experience as a salesman for E. B. Treat & Co, a New York publishing house. Palmer mostly sold subscription type books. John Fairbanks was manager of the Western Sunday-School Publishing Co.
J. Fairbanks & Co. was established in 1877 by John Fairbanks and
Loomis T. Palmer.
In 1879 Fairbanks, Palmer & Co. was formed.
In 1884 because of financial reverses secondary to the failure of
several debtors of the firm, the outfit was reorganized as Fairbanks
& Palmer (Publishing Co.).
In 1888 the company failed. Apparently Fairbanks had left town
without leaving anyone in charge of the finances.
He was never heard from again.
This company published two series for children/ juveniles.
