William H. Hill, Jr. & Co., Boston

Born in Boston, William H. Hill, Jr. (1838-1904) began in the publishing business as a clerk with Sanborn, Carter & Bazin and later with Brown, Taggard & Chase. Between 1859 and 1861 he was a named partner with Chase, Nichols & Hill. He headed his own firm between 1861 and 1869. After that he was involved international banking and shipping interests.

Hill published a number of series for juveniles.
