Hoffman & Morwitz, Philadelphia
John S. Hoffmann and Dr. E. Morwitz established this firm in 1853. It was active in the 1850's as the publisher of the German language New World, a weekly newspaper, and the Philadelphia Democrat, a daily German newspaper.
In 1872 it printed its only series for juveniles. This set was co-published with Claxton, Remsen and Haffelfinger. The latter firm also published this set as the primary publisher.
In 1873 John S. Hoffman retired from the firm. Thereafter the firm
was styled Morwitz & Co.
