George D. Hurst, New York
George D. Hurst was the son of Thomas D. Hurst, the founder of Hurst & Co. George had been employed by Frank Lovell in the 1890 U. S. Book Company per "Thomas D. Hurst" by Bradford S. Chase. In 1890 George D. Hurst was one of several men who filed articles of incorporation as the Hurst Company. Thomas D. Hurst and William L. Mershon were among the others. It is unclear whether this was a new partnership arrangement of the original Hurst & Co. established in 1871.
George D. Hurst severed his connection in 1895 with Hurst & Co in 1895 and published on his namesake imprint. In 1895 Hurst’s Ambrosial Series was the main output. Previously, in the late 1880's, he had also operated his namesake publishing firm.
As late as 1904 he was a publisher. Sometime thereafter he was employed by Hurst & Co. as a traveler. This was until at least 1912.
In 1896 this firm published its one juvenile series.
