William Hyde & Son, Portland, Maine
William Hyde (1788-1870) entered the book business in Bath, Maine in 1811. In 1816 he bought the Portland bookstores of Lyman and Hall as well as Mr. Murray and opened his own store. His company went through several name iterations including William Hyde, Shirley and Hyde, Hyde, Lord and Duren and William Hyde & Son. He retired in 1857.
William Hyde & Son published one series for juveniles.

The first editions of this four volume set were published by William Hyde & Son. The series was published as late as 1853.
