James A. Moore, Philadelphia

Very little is known about this Philadelphia publisher.
It was active as early as 1874 and as late as 1878.

In its 1877 catalogue Moore noted that it had purchased the plates and copyrights of J. P. Skelly & Co. Thus an explanation of why eight of the twelve juvenile series that Moore published were the same as earlier Skelly libraries. (These are noted with an "S" after the series name on the list below.)

What remains unexplained is how Alfred Martien in 1873 announced that it was adding to its inventory all of the publications of J. P. Skelly & Co. Perhaps this was just a sale of books rather than a new publishing effort.
