S. & C. Shepley, Fitchburg, Massachusetts

Charles Shepley (1822-1848) had been a Fitchburg bookseller and publisher at least as early as 1843. Stephen (1818-1880) had moved to Fitchburg from Shirley, Mass and in 1844-1845 taught school in Fitchburg. In 1845 he joined his brother to establish S. & C. Shepley, a bookselling and publishing business. When Charles died in 1848, Stephen assumed control of the newly named, Stephen Shepley firm. He sold the company to H. R. Phleps in 1852. He and Rodney Wallace bought back the outfit in 1853. Later Wallace succeeded this firm as Rodney Wallace & Co. The latter company was mainly a stationery firm.

The only series for juveniles published by the Shepley companies was the "Teacher Series" in 1846-1848.
