Weeden & Peek, Providence
Stehen R. Weeden had a long history in the Providence book business.
He was noted to be a printer as early as 1825. In 1831 he was a named
partner in Weeden and Knowles. In 1834 he was a principal in Weeden and
Cory. He joined William H. Peek to form Weeden & Peek in about
1847. By 1850 Weeden & Peek had dissolved and Weeden was involved
with Weeden and Snow.
Not much is known about William H. Peek. He was bookseller by 1850 with
the Franklin Bookstore.
Weeden & Peek succeeded Geo. P. Daniels in 1848. It published all
four of the Daniels' juvenile chapbook (toy) series in addition to two
other series, Mrs. Sherwood's Stories and the "Plain 2 Cent Toy Books".
