J. S. Wesby, Worcester, Massachusetts
Joseph Shellengsforth Wesby was educated in Philadelphia’s public schools. He started in the book trade as an apprentice at J. B. Lippincott. He moved to Worcester and by 1845 had established his own namesake company which specialized in book binding, publishing blank books, gift books, toy books, stationery and also bookselling. As the company grew, Wesby's sons, Herbert and Edward joined the the firm. By 1878 Herbert entered the company which was then styled J. S. Wesby & Son. In 1884 Edward became a member of the newly named J. S. Wesby & Sons.
There is evidence that J. S. Wesby published one series of toy books.
Only four books in the series have been seen. It is likely that other
titles were printed.
