White & Allen, New York
The White & Allen publishing firm had a relatively short life. Originally Joel Parker White and Frederick A. Stokes left the employ of Dodd, Mead in May, 1881 and formed White & Stokes. In 1883 Frank Allen, also a former Dodd, Mead & Co. employee joined White and Stokes to establish White, Stokes & Allen. Of note, Allen's grandfather, Moses Allen, was one of the founders of the American Tract Society.
In May, 1887 White, Stokes & Allen dissolved and White & Allen was formed. The firm went bankrupt in 1890.
Stokes went on to found several namesake publishing houses.
White & Allen published three series for juveniles.
