John D. Williams, New York
Williams was active in the publishing world as early as 1880 when he
along with John W. Lovell printed the "Chatterbox" for that year. They
were subsequently sued and enjoined by the court because they
infringed upon the Chatterbox trademark name which at the time
belonged to Estes & Lauriat.
In addition to publishing, Williams ran the Arundel Bookstore
"Cheapest Bookstore in the World" which was initially at 24 West
Fourteenth Street. The earliest date I have seen for this bookstore
was in 1882. A fire partially damaged the store in May, 1888 but
apparently Williams continued in the selling and publishing business
until at least 1890.
