Late in 1843 Series No. 1 or One Cent Toys was published by
Rufus Merrill. This is the only series that had the Rufus Merrill title
page imprint in 1843 . Although ads stated that this series would be
expanded to eighteen volumes, there is no evidence that this happened.
An 1848 advertisement noted that this series had sixteen titles. No
volumes with numbers greater than twelve have been seen.
