All books have an 1849 copyright. Advertisements indicate initially
only the first six titles made up this series.
The first editions note 1849 on the title page. All of these books have
a book appropriate line drawn colored frontispiece.
There has been no established priority between Format 1 and Format 2
books. Both formats have been seen with 1849, 1850 and undated title
pages.
This publisher printed a 16 mo. omnibus edition of these stories. It
has not been seen.
Format 1 (1849, 1850 and undated title pages)
Cloth. Red. Blindstamped cover with an embossed peripheral pattern.
Gilt lettering and decoration on the spine. 6" x 4.5"
Format 2 (1849, 1850 and undated title pages)
Cloth. Blue-Grey, green and red seen. Blindstamped cover with gilt
title and embossed decoration (different from Format 1). Gilt
lettering and decoration on the spine (Same as Format 1). 6" x 4.75"
Format 3.
Cloth. Various colors. Blindstamped with simple
peripheral line decoration. Spine with gilt decoration and
lettering the same as in Format 1 and 2. 6" x 4.75"
