This series was introduced by Davis, Porter & Co. in 1865. It was reprinted by Davis, Porter & Coates in 1866. D. Appleton & Co. published the first editions earlier.
The preface notes that there were to be about twenty books in the "Ballantyne's Miscellany" series. Only four titles were published.

Cloth. Blindstamped. Various colors. Blindstamped. No publisher
initials on the cover. Gold gilt lettering and illustration in the
spine. 4.5” x 6.5”.
The successor publisher initials (Porter & Coates) are embossed on
the front cover in later 1867 editions.
(This same edition with Davis, Porter & Coates as the imprint has
been seen with Porter & Coates on the spine.
