Although the first edition of title #1 has a page that states: “Home
Books” by Cousin Alice, there is also a notation in an early ad that
says “There would be more Home Books if they liked the first”. Only the
first title has been seen with the gilt cover illustration of the
two children holding a pennant.

This series is a bit different from most Appleton sets. Many of the
earlier books have different cover formats.
For the most part the covers are different for each book. It was not
until 1868 that all eight titles have common covers.
