The first six volumes were published as a set in 1848. Later in 1848
"Poems" was added to the series but deleted before the volumes #7-9
were printed. Titles #7-9 were published later in 1848.
There were three 1848 formats. It is unclear which titles ( except for
those noted below) were part of which formats.
These titles were all published by Gould, Kendall and Lincoln. No
editions published by Gould and Lincoln have been seen.
Format 1. Cloth. Various colors. Blindstamped. This was seen for at
least the first edition of Volume #1. It is not known whether the other
1848 titles were also published in this format or in a different
format.
Format 2 (Volume 6) Green and brown decoration and illustration with
book title on the front cover. Unsure whether #1-5 and #7-9 were also
seen in this format.
Format 3 (Volume 5) Green and brown decorative front cover with the
name of the series on the front cover. It is unknown which, if any, of
the other titles were published in this format.
