John B. Alden published two versions of this set in 1883. At that time there were twelve individual volumes as well as twelve titles bound in three volumes. The set had previously been published by J. S. Redfield, Clark, Austin, Maynard & Co., Clark & Maynard and John R. Anderson. The Alden publications are the scarcest.
The twelve titles bound in three volumes have not been seen. They were advertised in 1883-1884. Beginning in 1884 the advertisements noted a format of the twelve titles bound in four volumes. The contents are shown directly below:
