Sold as a boxed set starting in 1873 by D. Lothrop & Co. Ads note that the boxed set was still being sold as late as 1884.
Cloth. Various colors. Gilt decorations and letterboxes on the
cover and the spine.
After D. Lothrop & Co. stopped publishing these five books in a
boxed set, they were still printed in the same format for a time under
the heading of "Pansy Books".
Note that the publisher’s monogram on the cover has D, L & Co. Later editions published by D. Lothrop Company (after 1887) do not have the "&".
