Most of these Howitt titles previously were previously part of the
"Tales for the People and Their Children Series" in the 1840's until
1856.
This series was introduced in 1857. Advertisements for this set
continued into the late 1880's.
At this time no editions dated after 1877 have been seen.
Two formats currently are known. Both are in cloth with various colors.
Blindstamped patterns on the the cover and gilt decoration and
lettering on the spines.
