These volumes are Alfred Martien first editions.
This series was released by Alfred Martien in 1870. Initially it
contained volumes #1-3.
There is an 1870 ad that noted that this series had four titles. The third and fourth books were: "Under the Fir Trees" and "Greek Maid". The latter two books were also part of the "Oakville Series" at this time. I suspect that this is a mistake in the ad but without seeing an original box it is impossible to know. Later 1870 ads showed the titles as are noted above.
There were two 1870 formats.
There is no priority between them.
One format (not seen) has an applique on the cover with the same spine
as the other format. 16 mo.
The other format (not seen) was blindstamped. Gilt decoration and
lettering on the spine. 16 mo.
1873 Alfred Martien format:
Cloth. Various colors. Black line drawn cover design. Spine has gilt lettering and decorative pattern. 16 mo.
