This series was introduced by Crosby, Nichols, Lee & Co. in 1860 with books #1-3 (Leila titles). It added books #4 and #5 to the series in 1861. Later Crosby and Nichols and Crosby and Ainsworth published the five book set.
Books #1, 2 & 3 were first published by C. S. Francis & Co. in 1853. Later editions in the 1850's were co-published with Crosby, Nichols and Co. The Mary books had been published previously.
The first three books have stories in sequence.
