Introduced as a Nims & Knight series in about 1888. Later the series was published by Joseph Knight Company.
An earlier edition of #1 with a blindstamped embossed cover has been seen.

The content of Book #1 appeared earlier in "Helps Over Hard Places for Boys. Second Series" which was published and copyrighted by H. B. Nims & Co. in 1872.

Both of these books were published by the American Tract Society in the 1891 four volume “Helps Over Hard Places Series" which also included "Helps over Hard Places for Boys" and "Helps over Hard Places for Girls". The latter two volumes were originally copyrighted by the American Tract Society in 1862.
