These titles were initially released as single titles. By December,
1870 they were listed together as a series.
That would seem to indicate that the editions with 1870 title pages
were single books (Format 1) and thereafter the 1871 and later title
page books (Format 2) were in in the series.
The books are first editions.
The E. Claxton & Co. reprints of this series have not been seen.
Frontispiece and illustrated title page are the only illustrations.
Two formats noted.
The first two titles have been seen in format 1 with 1870 title pages
Format 1
Cloth. Blindstamped. Gilt lettering and decoration on the spine.
6.75" x 4.5" (1870)
In 1871 a second format for book #3 is shown below. It is not known
whether all three books were noted in Format 1 or Format 2.
Format 2.
Cloth. Various colors. Black decorative cover design with the
publisher's initials centrally located.
Format 3. Cloth. Black decorative cover with gilt spine lettering
and decoration. 1876
