Although the authors are not completely known, it is presumed that Edgeworth or Barbauld wrote the books that have no author designated.
Charles E. Brown published this series in about 1877. Previously a
number of other firms printed this series.
Degen, Estes & Co. published the first editions in 1866. Lee &
Shepard put out the series in about 1868.
Dodd & Mead, Dodd, Mead & Co. as well as George R. Dana & Co. published this series in the same format as Charles E. Brown. Interestingly George R. Dana's books' title page' have the same address as the Charles E. Brown books: 143 Washington Street.
Other publishers of this series included Cobb, Andrews & Co., Cobb, Pritchard & Co. and Wm. Carter & Brother.
