The series was first published by John E. Potter in 1865. By 1866 the titles noted John E. Potter & Co. as the publisher. In about 1867 a one volume, clothbound folio book, "The National Nursery Tales" contained all these titles. These books were published into the late 1870's.

The 1867 volumes had either plain pictures or illuminated illustrations.

Here is a cover for a Three Bears book. Even though it noted "National Nursery Tales" on the cover, this title was in the "Little Silverhair Series" Perhaps this is a publisher printing error or maybe this title was included in the "National Nursery Tales" at another time.
