In 1869 James Miller printed The One Syllable Library. Five volumes written by Mary Godolphin were published as a boxed set for $7.50 or as individual $1.50 volumes. These editions are reprints.

These books are in the familiar format for the one syllable titles which were published by a number of firms in the late 1860's. They all had the two circle cover. The title page of each notes the 647 Broadway address (pre-1877). Multiple cover colors have been seen.

Each book has eight illustrated plates in color.

Cloth. Various colors. Gilt cover lettering, illustrations and decoration. Spine has gilt lettering and line drawn pattern. 6.75" x 5.25".

The illustrations within the cover circles are book specific.

In 1877 Miller moved to 779 Broadway. There is evidence that Miller published two of the One Syllable books at this new address. It is unclear whether Miller reprinted the other three One Syllable books after the 1877 move.

In the post-1877 books I have seen two different Aesop's Fables' volumes. One has eight plates (Blue cover) whereas the other (Red cover) has only three plates. I cannot absolutely determine the priority between these books but the earlier published books (pre-1877) also had eight plates.

Aesop's Fables $1.25 (by 1879-$1.00)
Sandford and Merton $1.00

Cloth. Various colors. Gilt cover lettering, illustration and design. The spine is the same as the earlier one syllable books. 7" x 4.5"
