The Pleasure Books initially cost 6.25 cents and were only sold
"plain". A "Treasury of Pleasure Books" combined all twelve books and
cost 37.5 cents.
The first six titles and the second six titles were bound in "fancy
paper" and sold for 37.5 cents.
Later ads (24 Beekman) noted 6 cents for a plain book and 9 cents for
a colored book. Even later the prices had jumped to 6.25 cents and
12.5 cents.
This series was published earlier by Elton & Co.
The earliest of the Pleasure Books has the John McLoughlin imprint on
the cover but the Elton & Co. imprint on the title page. The book
directly below has the 3 Tryon Row (1852-1853) address for McLoughlin
and the 21/23 Ann Street (1851-1852) address for Dill. A Division
Street McLoughlin book would predate the 3 Tyron Row volume noted
below.
