Lindsay & Blakiston published these titles over a three year
span. The volumes were also published as the "Biographical School
Series" and as part of the later "Young American's Library".
"Pictorial Life of Napoleon Bonaparte" was published in 1844 with a
different format and this earlier book is not considered part of this
series.
Books were printed with plain plates (80 cents) and colored plates (90
cents or $1.00).
Cloth. Brown, blue, orange and tan seen. Blindstamped with gilt
book appropriate cover illustration.
Spine has gilt lettering (“Pictorial Life of…”) and decoration. 7"
x 5.5"
Three different cover embossed patterns have been seen.
This format was used in 1845 and appears to have been the first cover
design used for this series.
