D. Lothrop & Co. introduced this series in 1874. These volumes were originally published by Gould & Lincoln.

In 1881 the "Stories of American History" series included five Banvard books.
#1, 2, and #4 and new titles:
Pioneers of the New World
First Explorers of North America.

These books are part of a number of Lothrop publisher's series. The volumes that are within this series have the illustrated title page which notes the series name. (See below).

The book pictured has an 1876 copyright. Since the series was released in 1874, there may be an earlier format book (which has not been seen).
