Introduced as a series in late 1852 by Crosby, Nichols and Company
Illustrated
The earlier books are not dated but do note the 111 Washington Street address on the title page. Crosby, Nichols and Company left 111 Washington Street in 1856. In 1858 it was at 117 Washington Street. (No books from the 1857 249 Washington Street have been seen.)
Most likely this series was also published by Crosby, Nichols, Lee and Co. but none of the books have been seen. Only one book published by Crosby and Nichols (1862-1864) has been seen and it is shown below. Whether the firm used a common format for the series at that time or not is unknown.
Cloth. Various cover designs have been seen. Square. 8.5" x 6"
(It is unclear since the books are undated whether there was a new
cover design for each year's print run or if the cover designs were
used randomly.)
