James R. Miller first published this series in 1879. Previously the series had been printed by James Monroe & Co., Willis P. Hazard, and others. Prior to the publication of this series, in 1868, James Miller published a book that contained Old Jolliffe, Sequel to Old Jolliffe and Merry Christmas. The spine notes "Sunbeam Stories" and the Allen Brothers (publisher) but the title pages note James Miller, 1868.

Subsequently the series was published by Thomas R. Knox & Co. 19th Century Juvenile Series - Sunbeam Library
