Laird & Lee began publishing this set in about 1894.
These titles are reprints. The volumes had previously been published by Lee & Shepard and Alex T. Loyd. In 1890 Laird & Lee bought the plates and copyrights of the Thomes' titles from Loyd. Prior to the publication of the "Thrilling Tales…" series, the volumes as early as 1890 began appearing in Laird & Lee's paperback series. The Pastime Series included twelve Thomes’ books. "Daring Deeds" and "Ocean Rover" were in the Pastime Series but not in this clothbound set.
The subtitle and title were occasionally reversed on Manila Romance. i. e. "Life in the East Indies or the Manila Romance".
Initially in 1894 the Thomes' books were released in 25 cent editions. Gold Hunter's and the Belle of Australia were released first. By April of 1895 Laird & Lee had published all ten of the Thomes' volumes in this series.
