In 1872 the sixteen Mayne Reid books published by James R. Osgood & Co. were divided into three series.

In 1874 the first and second series above were called the first series and divided into the two subseries: American Adventures and Foreign Adventures. At that time the third series above was renamed the second series.

The 1872-1874 the American and Foreign Adventure series' books have the same format.
