This series was introduced by Phillips, Sampson and Company in
1851/1852.
The earliest editions have 20 engravings. The later larger books have
forty engravings.
Two formats have been seen.
There are advertisements that note titles with 160 pages. These volumes
have not been seen.
There are also ads between 1853 and 1856 that note books with 24
engravings and cloth with gilt. These books also have not been seen.

Cloth. Red. Gilt book appropriate cover illustration. Spine with
gilt lettering, decorations and illustration. Square. 16 mo.
In the first format the earliest books have 1852 title pages and 96
pages. The later books have 142 pages and no date on the title page.
