In 1856 the first Vacation Story Books' list of six titles was noted by Phillips, Sampson and Company. Previously all in the books had been published in various formats. Since none of the early titles indicate whether they were part of this series, the formats are conjecture.

In 1858 the series' list had twelve titles.

2. Cheerful Heart; or, A Silver Lining to Every Cloud

Crosby, Nichols, Lee and Co., Rickey, Mallory & Co., and S. C. Perkins published the Vacation Story Books for Boys and Girls in 1860 and 1861. It is a 12 book series which includes all of the titles from the earlier series except #2 and #12 which were replaced with Walter Seyton and Karl Kiegler. Of interest is that these latter two titles were published in 1859 by Phillips, Sampson and Co. Whether they were part of the Phillips, Sampson series for a short time is unknown.

Later Lee and Shepard published the 10 (plus two) books in two series: The Rosy Diamond Series and Vacation Story Books for Boys and Girls.
