War of Revolution Series by Everett T. Tomlinson
Illustrated by Charles Copeland

Published by W. A. Wilde & Company
1. Three Colonial Boys 1895
2. Three Young Continentals 1896
3. Washington's Young Aids 1897
4. Two Young Patriots; or, Boys of the Frontier 1898

First four boxed for $6.00 in 1899

The fourth book was originally advertised as Boys of the Frontier. When it was published the anticipated title was the subtitle. These books with the same basic format were printed into the 1930's.

"In the Camp of Cornwallis" (1902) is frequently noted to be in this series. This appears to be an error. In Wilde advertisements after 1902 this title is listed below the four volumes of the set. The series however always notes it contains only four books. i. e. "Four volumes. The set in a box."

The first editions of the first three books note 25 Bromfield as the address on the title page. In addition a first edition (volumes #1-4) lists only to itself in the ads in the back of the book. In other words if a Three Colonial Boys book has The Three Continentals listed in the back of the book, it is not a first edition.

To determine whether book #4 ("Two Young Patriots") is a first edition, there must be no 1899 titles listed in the back ads. Examples of 1899 titles are "Wheat and Huckleberries", "Cadet Standish of the St. Louis" and "The Romance of Conquest"

The later editions have red not gilt lettering on the front cover. 8" x 6".
The gilt lettering was seen at least until 1905.

The book directly below (Three Colonial Boys) has the first edition format plus a first edition title page. But it is not a first edition-first printing book. Note the ads below the book's pictures. The ad page on the right is from this book and lists the later two books from the series. The ad page on the left is the first edition ad page for this title. Note it only lists this book from the series.
