When released initially in 1881 the first three titles were sold in
two formats. The American Russia with gilt tops could only be purchased
in a three volume boxed set. A four box set was available in 1882
(#1-4).
In 1883 #5 was no longer in this series. It was now in the Young Folks'
Epochs of History Series. In 1884 the projected "Ireland" volume had
not been published.
The other format:
Cloth. Various colors. Decorative cover with gilt lettering on the
cover and the spine. Available as a three volume box in 1881. Other
years a four volume box was available. 7.25" x 5.25".
