The first two books were not initially part of a series.
By title #3 the volumes were designated the "War Books". In the preface
of No. 4 Goss states that this is the third (Jack, Tom and Jed) and
might be the last of the books but the ads do state that there were
four titles in the "War Books" (including "Recollections"). The five
titles were still part of the series into he early 1900's.
Format:
Cloth. Various colors. Each volume has a book appropriate cover
illustration (see below). Gilt lettering and Gilt spine
illustrations. 12 mo.
First edition does not list "Recollections" in the ads and the title
page notes 13 Astor Place address.
Later editions have no address on the title page and note "Tom Clifton"
in the ads.
The first edition notes 46 East Fourteenth Street (but not the Purchase
Street address) on the title page.
Early editions only list three titles in the "War Stories" ads in the
front.
